Program Note:

Beginnings is a piece written as the start of hopefully a long journey of writing a small prelude for the Euphonium every year. I was inspired to begin this project by my teacher, Dr. Jason Haney, who has done the same for many years for the piano. For this first prelude, I simply wanted to portray the energy, effort, and excitement of beginning new projects and chapters in our lives. These moments, with all of their ups and downs, twists and turns, and new circumstances, help to define our lives, and as I go through my own, I used the composing of this piece to reflect.
